a note about improv… everything is made up on the spot. Really. Some people have asked us how we can prove our show is improvised when we don’t take suggestions. Well of course, we really can’t, other than to invite you to see our next show, and our show after that, and our show after that, which will undoubtedly be completely different from the previous night. To this, some adventurous London comedy audiences have pointed out that we could always write a new play before every show. True. It is technically possible that we could do this, but having performed over one hundred shows would mean that most of those scripts would be so stupendously awful that we would have to hand in our London Improvisation Comedy Passes and never return to the London theatre again. But we digress, because even if we could write a new show each night, we we’d have to memorise a new show each night. Now, we wish we had that much free time, we would do terrible things to have that much free time, but with the world nowadays demanding everyone get a job so they have money to spend on food, shelter and the occasional improv show, we just don’t have the time to do anything but step on stage and make up a completely improvised play without a moment of preparation. All this aside, we don’t perform our improvised play as a challenge to our audience or to flaunt the useless abilities we have accrued over our lifetime as creative (some would say lazy) people. Avocado perform Avocado Presents because we love improv as an art form, not as a trick. The London comedy scene is a vast oasis of forms and styles, from standup to sketch to dance to clown to theatre of all kinds. Improv is like a delicious stew of all these put together, and best of all, there are no rules. A scene can be funny, dramatic, sad and outrageous all in the space of five minutes, depending on the mood of the performers and the mood of the audience - it’s a wholly collaborative experience. The more we do this, the more we believe there’s something euphoric about sitting in a dark theatre and watching something created just for you, something that exists exclusively for one night only and will never be repeated, floating away into the psychedelic ether of the universe. What’s more, this psychedelic trip requires only two performers and two chairs, which means, costs are minimal and tickets are cheap. Cheap London Comedy. Even better. Cheap London Improv Comedy. So cheap that you really don’t have much excuse not to check us out at least once. You never know, it might be the one thing missing from your perfect life. Or if you’re like us, it’s the perfect thing to complement your far from perfect life. So call us Improv, Impro, Comedy, Improvisational Comedy, or the moniker we’ve settled on, An Improvised Play, you’ll still get something utterly unpredictable and unprepared that you can call your own. Should you find yourself tickled by a burning curiosity to try something new, then there’s only one thing to do; Buy a ticket and take the ride.
